Biography

Nene Fembe Bokoe Mbeng, founder and CEO of Nene Fembe Studios, is a groundbreaking cinematographer and documentary filmmaker from Yaoundé, Cameroon. With over seven years of experience, she stands among the first women in her region to excel in cinematography, specializing in stories that amplify African voices in conservation, cultural heritage, and environmental justice.

Her acclaimed fiction film, The Planter’s Plantation, was Cameroon’s 2023 Oscar submission and won the Ousmane Sembène Award. As a documentary director, Fembe has collaborated with organizations like Greenpeace Africa, capturing powerful narratives from indigenous and rural communities. Her works—including Ngondo’h (2019) and Gateways to Dreams (2023)—reflect her commitment to visual storytelling as a tool for education, empowerment, and lasting impact. A alumna of the NEWF Cinematography Lab and Patrimoine Documentary Workshop, Fembe continues to shape authentic, urgent stories rooted in nature and identity.
