They are burning, but not from fire.
When a dedicated veterinarian in Cameroon discovers hundreds of bats mysteriously falling from the sky, her investigation uncovers a chilling global pattern, forcing a confrontation between superstition and the undeniable reality of the climate crisis.

“This film was born from a need to challenge the narrative. We have been taught to fear bats as vectors of disease, as creatures of the night. But what if the greatest threat isn’t from them, but to them?

‘BEYOND THE CAVE’ is a forensic look at the frontline of the climate crisis—a crisis that is not a future threat, but a present, documented reality killing our wildlife right now. It’s a story about a woman using science to push back against folklore and apathy, and in doing so, revealing a truth that affects us all. Our goal is to frame this ecological mystery with the tension of a thriller, giving the audience not just something to learn, but a mystery to solve alongside our protagonist.

Synopsis

A silent epidemic is unfolding in the skies of Cameroon. For decades, the mass death of migrating fruit bats has been dismissed as normal, even blamed on witchcraft. A veterinarian new to the Garoua Zoological Garden, refuses to accept these explanations. “BEYOND THE CAVE” follows a gripping scientific detective story as she races to connect the dots between local bat deaths and identical tragedies on the other side of the world. This is a story about the cost of misunderstanding nature and the urgent, tangible price biodiversity pays on a planet that is getting hotter by the year.

 Contribute to the STORY

Our film seeks to build a global picture of a silent crisis. The mysterious death of Eidolon helvum bats due to extreme heat is not just a tragedy in Cameroon—it’s a warning sign for the entire planet.

We are calling on researchers, conservationists, and concerned citizens worldwide, particularly in regions like Australia, India, and across Africa, to share your data and stories.

Have you witnessed similar events in your area?
Your firsthand accounts, photographic evidence, or scientific data are invaluable. By sharing, you can help us:

  • Map the Global Scale: Connect isolated incidents to reveal a broader, undeniable pattern of climate impact.
  • Strengthen the Narrative: Provide the concrete, multi-continental evidence needed to make this story resonate with a global audience.
  • Drive Real Change: The finished film will be a tool for advocacy, and your contribution will be a part of that impact.

If you have information on mass bat mortality events linked to heatwaves, or any relevant research on Eidolon helvum and climate change, please consider sharing it with our team.

We believe that reversing the effects of climate change begins by truly understanding what we are losing. Together, we can shed light on this critical issue and fight for what we stand to lose.
